Hi! My name is Felipe Figueroa-Tapia, a Master’s student who works in the field of massive stars. Currently, I am based at the Universidad de Valparaíso, where I am also a member of the Massive Stars Group.

Research Interest

My main research interests are related to the stellar winds of hot and massive stars (usually temperatures above 28 to 30 kK), which are mainly driven by the radiation that emits. During my years as an undergraduate student, I learned how to model stars using the hydrodynamic solution of the wind instead of the famous “beta law”, which I used in my bachelor thesis in the development of a self-consistent grid of theoretical models and allowed me to study not only the distribution of mass-loss rate and terminal velocity but also de distribution for the line-force parameters, where I compute three formulae for the mass-loss rate. I am also interested in Be stars, where I worked in parallel with my thesis quantifying the temporal change of the disk properties of the Be star HD 45725 using the code HDUST, a 3D Monte Carlo NLTE radiative transfer code.
